Gum Clear cleans up at waste industry Oscars

18 November 2010

Gum Clear celebrated winning a prestigious award at the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) awards in London today at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel.

Scooping the award for 'Best Vehicle, Plant and Equipment of the Year' Gum Clear was also short listed for the innovative practice in waste management and resource recovery.

The innovative CCR3000, a self contained unit used for clearing chewing gum from high streets, city squares, pedestrian areas and heavily used public space, lead Gum Clear to victory.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the CCR3000 clears upward of 300 metres of pavement an hour, lifting and removing as much as 8,000 pieces of gum in the process. Managing Director, Martin Whitbread, said: "We are delighted with this fantastic award and being showcased by the CIWM. It's an exciting time for Gum Clear."

Whereas a standard jet wash projects and loses 1,320 litres per hour - and 8,000 litres in just six hours, Gum Clear's system for clearing chewing gum from the street, while re-capturing 97% of the water, saves both water and the amounts of energy required to heat it.

In creating a recapture and recycle system, Gum Clear has been able to safely heat water to 100°C for projecting it onto the paving, which improves the cleaning standards beyond previous limits - a worthy winner of this coveted award.
